You may not be able to travel to Hawaii with our Maggie Speaks team next week, but you sure can bring the sun and sand to your next event. Set sail into spring and summer with a Yacht Rock show! Check out our top tips for turning this entertainment idea into full blown beach celebration.
Start with the perfect easy listening tunes! Yacht Rock shows feature the smooth sailing sounds of the 70s and 80s. Work with your band to create a set list full of top hits from Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers, Toto, Hall and Oates, Steely Dan as well as one hit wonders like Looking Glass and Ruppert Holmes.
Once you have your set list taken care of, it is time to set the stage. If possible, opt for venues that overlook water to get a true ocean-like feel. Otherwise, bring the sun and sand to your stage! Incorporate nautical elements into your venue and stage decor to set the mood, like anchors, buoys, sand and starfish. Bonus points if you can find a helm to put on display!
